We have often been told how myopia is genetic and that the only thing we can do about it is either to wear vision crutches like glasses or go under the knife. But did you know that LASIK comes with a host of side effects, including but not limited to a possibility of blindness?
And even if the surgery goes well, there’s a high probability your eyesight would get worse that it was before the surgery. I know a few of my friends who experienced that. Now it doesn’t sound like a great deal right?
As with most traditional medicine, LASIK corrects only the symptom of the problem, not the cause. Imagine a pilot getting rid of the low fuel alarm just because it was making a noise. The noise is gone – but that doesn’t mean the plane’s safe!
So what exactly is the cause of myopia? It’s the chronic strain of the eye muscles. You see, the combination of bad vision habits such as staring and wearing glasses caused you to strain your eye muscles that in time, turned chronic. It’s just like a backache – your muscles strain involuntarily.
The key to solving myopia – and a host of other common eye problems such astigmatism – is therefore relaxation of the eye muscles. When you do that, not only would you enjoy perfect eyesight, the frequent headaches people who wear high degree glasses would also disappear.
Here are three steps for you to start relaxing your eye muscles:
- Significantly reduce the amount of time you wear your glasses. If you have to wear glasses all day long – like I was – get one that is weaker than the one prescribed to you. I generally go for 1.5 diopters less.
- Blink frequently. Blinking is like a mini-massage to your eyes. People with healthy eyes blink every 3 seconds or so while people who are myopic tend to stare for a long time.
- If you eyes are tired, don’t force it to stay open, Take 5 to 10 minutes to rest.
