Wearing High Index Glasses

There is a large variety of glasses available nowadays. You can choose from a huge range of styles, shapes, colours and brands, and you can choose to wear varifocal lenses, bifocal lenses, aspheric lenses, double aspheric lenses, high index lenses and so on. Everyone can find the right frames and lenses to suit their needs and many people have two or more pairs of glasses which they wear for different purposes. Different types of lenses can be used for different purposes and are ideal in various situations.

These type of lenses are very popular with people who need a strong lens prescription as they are thin and light weight but still give one the same strength of sight correction. If you are quite strongly short sighted or near sighted then your prescription will be high and you will need strong lenses. Traditional glasses lenses with a high prescription are usually thick and quite heavy. This is because lenses work by light refraction. The more your sight needs correction, the more light needs to refract and so the thicker the lenses. However if you choose to wear high index glasses, you no longer need to wear thick, heavy and uncomfortable lenses. High index glasses have lenses which are made from a plastic material called thirourethanes which refracts light to a much greater efficiency than other materials, and so a much smaller, thinner sized lens will give you the same good quality of vision you are used to with your normal lenses.

These type of glasses are available in all shapes and styles of frames, so whatever frames you like to wear you can have the opportunity of wearing high index lenses. Rimless glasses leave your lenses quite exposed and this can sometimes be a problem, but high index glasses are especially effective with rimless glasses because the material used in the lenses is very resistant to damage and shattering.

Although high index glasses are great because they allow people with strong prescriptions to wear thinner lenses, they do reflect a lot of light, which many people find a problem. Light reflection can actually be a danger especially when driving because you can distract other drivers and hinder your vision. But by using an anti reflection coating on your glasses, you can eliminate this problem.

By wearing high index glasses, you can wear thinner, flatter more lightweight lenses which still give you clear vision.
