Eyeglasses are much like keys, cellphones and wallets, in that we love to put them down in odd places and then promptly forget about them. And, as with keys, cellphones and wallets, this is always done right as you need them the most. If you find yourself constantly misplacing your spectacles, then you know you need to make a change, especially considering how frustrating aimlessly running all over the house can be. Here are a few tips on how to not lose your glasses – or at least lose them less frequently:
Keep Your Glasses in Their Case
Glasses cases can be of infinite value for keeping your eyewear protected, but they can also work wonders in keeping their location known to you. It may sound silly, but one of the reasons is that your eyeglasses case is simply larger and more visible than your glasses are. And no matter the actual design of the case, it will certainly stick out and grab your attention, even in a large, dark bag. Another reason this can be helpful is that going through the motions of putting them away, almost ritualistically, will help to jog your memory of where and when you took them off last.
Have a Special Spot in Your Home and Office
For your home and the office, pick places to keep your case from which it will generally not move. Some common choices are your desk, bedside table or shelf, but this will depend on where you may be using them the most and what else you may be doing near those spots during the day. Once you get into the habit of always returning your glasses to the same exact spots, you will do it almost automatically and have a much easier time finding them when you need them the most.
Keep Them On You
For many people, always returning your glasses to the same spot after taking them off may not be reasonable. For those who are very frequently taking their eyeglasses on and off, only to find they need them very shortly thereafter, a chain attached to the frames might be their best solution. Wearing your glasses around your neck will obviously make them extremely difficult to lose.
Of course all of these tips may be easier said than done, but once you put the work into forming good habits, they will stick with you much better than you might think.
