The Origins Of Aviator Sunglasses

It genuinely isn’t common information where the original aviator sunglasses originated from. A movie in 1986 popularized this style of sunglasses, known as Top Gun. The movie made these sunglasses popular, but it does not mean that’s where it originated. In reality, the US government asked Ray Ban to produce these glasses way back in the 30s.

Pilots required protection from the sun whilst retaining visibility. They needed protection all around, so it was natural to develop a huge pair of lenses to cover far more surface location. This style crept towards other groups of workers like the military as well as the police, and eventually it has made is way down to customers–the general public. Every one had access to this great looking style.

These aviator sunglasses started out becoming produced in black, but a lot more colors have been appearing since then. It is possible to get aviators in virtually any color, which includes red, yellow, purple, orange, pink, green, and more. The finish of the lens ranges widely. You can get clear ones, gradient ones, or even ones that have a mirrored coating. Some have other special properties built into the lens itself and are used in a variety of situations.

Numerous major brands have taken their own twist to this style and changed the frame and lens shape too. These shapes range from super round, to even square aviator sunglasses. The teardrop shape is a common one that is also imitated many times. You can even get these in prescription form now in all the shapes available.

A unique sort of lens called the polarized lens is also employed into the aviator style too. This lens reduces extra glare by blocking out most of the horizontal light waves that enter the glasses. It only makes it possible for waves of vertical light to go through, so you are able to retain clear vision. This is helpful for many situations such as fishing and driving, and other outdoor activities.

Whichever way you look at it, Ray Bans will always be the original. They were the very first, and they popularized it with the rest of the sunglasses world. This just isn’t to say that there aren’t newer, and fantastic twists taken on this aviator style. Several brands create great looking renditions of the aviator sunglasses too. You may even find your favorite is not one of the original brand.

A newer introduction to this style are mirrored aviators. They’ve a unique coating on them that creates a mirror-like finish. Mirrored aviator sunglasses  come in just as numerous colors and styles as the previous designs, except that their lenses are mirrored. The degree of the mirror effect can vary. For some sunglasses, you cannot see the eyes of the person wearing them. This effect can be so light that you’ll be able to barely notice the mirror effect too.
