Sunglasses – Discover the Special Features That Can Offer Extra Protection to Your Eyes!

If you feel concerned about your eyes’ health and you are particularly afraid of the danger caused to them by ultraviolet rays, you should learn something more about original and authentic sunglasses discovering few special features that can provide you with extra protection for your eyesight in any circumstance.

The choice of high-quality lenses is indeed the main element when buying a new pair of goggles. How many different types of lenses are there? Here is a short list of the most common types.

Polarized Lenses

This kind of lens is indeed very effective because they do reduce reflected glare.
Reflected glare is when sunlight bounces off smooth surfaces, such as water or concrete. Polarized sunglasses can offer extra ultraviolet protection. They are useful in reducing harmful rays from the sun mainly when driving, boating or skiing. However, for polarization does not correspond to UV protection, you must still verify that your polarized lenses do provide adequate sun defence.

Gradient Lenses

These lenses are permanently shaded from top to bottom, or from top and bottom toward the middle.
They can be of two different type.

1) Single gradient lenses are shaded lighter on the bottom and darker on the top. They cut glare from the sky while allowing your vision to see clearly below. Single gradient lenses are ideal for driving, yet not so great for skiing, boating or being at the beach.

2) Double gradient lenses are darker on top and bottom, lighter in the middle. They offer the best UV protection for boating or skiing.

Photochromic Lenses

Lenses of this kind become automatically lighter in low light and darker in bright light. They are the best choice for those who move between well-lit and dimly lit areas.
The only disadvantage is that lenses can take many minutes to adjust to different light conditions.

Mirror Coatings

They can reduce the amount of visible light entering the eyes. Mirror coatings offer thin layers of metallic coatings. When used in conjunction with wraparound frames, they provide an extra layer of UV protection to the skin which surrounds the eye. However, UV protection is never guaranteed.

It goes without saying that this type of features only belong to authentic sunglasses.

Apart from lenses, the frame of sunglasses are likewise important.

When selecting a pair of protective eyeshades, the best shape to choose is a large, huge pair of original Italian sunglasses with wraparound frames: this way, you can be sure that your entire eye is protected, including your peripheral vision.
