We are having a bit of fun with this title because reading sunglasses are actually the same thing as tinted reading glasses. However, when it comes to people searching online they tend to use the search term reading sunglasses more than tinted reading glasses. Am I giving industry secrets away here? This is not meant to be an article on keyword research, but it is interesting that leaders in our industry tend to refer to sun readers, tinted glasses (there’s a fine array of tinted wine glasses on the internet!) and tinted reading glasses rather than what people are actually searching for, that is, keying into Google. It seems that in all industries we get carried away with our own terminology and do not pay enough attention to what our customers and potential customers say and do.
The phrase ‘reading sunglasses’ is certainly more descriptive and accurate than any of the other terms mentioned above. After all, they are exactly that; glasses with magnified polarised lenses that enable people to carry out close up activity in the sunlight whilst protecting their eyes from the potentially harmful rays of the sun; in other words, reading glasses have become an increasingly popular way of allowing one to be able to read in the sun whether lounging by the swimming pool or on the beach. Consequently, they have also become a fashion statement for both men and women; donning a pair of colour co-ordinated UVA reading sun glasses alongside the latest beach fashion wear shouts class.
These tinted readers offer many benefits to those wearing them. Most instances cited by our customers are as follows:
• They solve the age old problem of constantly fighting between sunglasses and reading glasses when trying to absorb your latest ‘best seller’ book whilst absorbing the sun’s rays. The sun’s rays can be harmful so why not protect your eyes with 100% UVA protective lenses.
• There are many outdoor close up activities that can be enjoyed in the sunlight – gardening, or maybe even knitting!
I myself am lucky enough to be writing this sitting outside in the magnificent sunlight typing into my laptop with the aid of my own tinted reading specs. However, it should be stated that reading sunglasses are NOT necessarily computer reading glasses (despite what other suppliers might suggest) and are not designed for indoor use. Nor are they suitable for driving or other long distance activity.
As with all reading glasses, it is important that you select a magnification that it best suited to your eyesight. Despite having an eyechart available for our online customers, we would always advise that you have your eyesight checked by a qualified optician to ensure you are wearing the correct magnification for your tinted reading glasses. Whoops! I meant reading sunglasses didn’t I?
