Sunglasses are, for me, a pain. I am a spectacle wearer so I have to get prescription sunglasses, I tried wearing Acuvue Contact Lenses, but I couldn’t get used to sticking a finger in my eye. So when the summer time arrives, I am reliant on prescription sunglasses.
Ten years ago there was no choice whatsoever, prescription sunglasses looked terrible (unless you were willing to re-mortgage your house), and the designer sunglasses were limited to only a few brands. I have noticed that every year since however that there is more and more choice, more and more technology at the optometrist’s disposal. So this year I was looking forward to choosing my new pair.
Off I went to my Optician in Newcastle to choose a pair of sunglasses. If I didn’t wear glasses I doubt I would pay more than £50 for a pair of designer sunglasses, but since they are prescription sunglasses I set my budget at £150. I learned a while ago that you have to set a budget before you go into an opticians!
Yet again, there was more choice than last year. I saw the newer version of the Diesel Sunglasses I got last year, but no point having two pairs so similar, though they were nice (I put them in the ‘maybe tray’). I know they are popular, but I have never seen myself as an Armani Sunglasses girl, I don’t like the logo to be too big. Eventually (one and three quarter hours later) I had settled for a pair of Bolle Sunglasses. They were young, vibrant and a little bit quirky and bold. Very me.
Perhaps I bought them a bit early (April?) But I had to wait a whole month before it was sunny enough to warrant going out with them! I am beginning to think about moving to Spain so that I can get some decent use out of these designer sunglasses! Ah well, booked my holiday last night, so they will definitely be getting two weeks use this year.
You always get so excited when you go sunglasses shopping; it feels like the start of the summer, you are ready for the tan, swanning around town, sipping cocktails. Then you remember you live in Britain. Summer doesn’t work like that.
