As I mentioned earlier, when I wore my eyeglasses my peers made fun of me. Since I was so young when I begin to wear eyeglasses, the students would laugh because the eyeglasses looked too big on my face. It was because my head was so small. When the kids made fun of me it was very hurtful to me. Because my friends picked at me my self-esteem became very low. I felt like I was ugly and unwanted for many years. Having to wear glasses for so long, I was able to see how far technology has enhanced eyeglasses. After having to wear the wide frame bifocals for many years, I later had the pleasure of wearing a great pair of eyeglasses.
The eyeglasses I am referring to are the ones that Dewayne wore on the set of the TV show, It’s a Different World. The glasses came with a shade attachment on them. It was held together by magnets that you could click on or off as needed. I thought the glasses were so unique and cool. My next pair of glasses were the ones that when you wore them outside they would automatically turn into tinted shades. After wearing so many brands and styles of eyeglasses, the brand that I wear now is the Guess brand because they really enhance my beauty and they fit my face. Like other eyeglass wearers, I believe that it is very important that the glasses make you look good and intelligent, not dorky looking.
Some advantages of wearing eyeglasses are as follows:
You can change your look.
You are able to see properly.
Some disadvantages of wearing eye glasses are as follows:
You can have blurred vision while driving.
Sometimes bright lights head on are a problem.
Forgetting where you left them is a problem as well.
Sometimes you may accidentally drop them and break them or scratch them.
Because glasses are so expensive, you may only have one pair.
Overall, being able to see is so important. Before I got my first pair of glasses, I had to ask permission to move closer to the board. I felt so bad. Everyone was asking me why I can not see. Once I got my eyeglasses, the world looked so new to me. I did not know how much I was missing. Even though the glasses made me look terrible, I was so happy when I saw more clearly. My grades went up an entire letter grade. Now that I am an adult, I feel that no one who needs eyeglasses should have to go without them. America is a place of plenty, therefore; no child should have to endure what I had to endure by not being able to see clearly. Because the kids called me names like four eyes, a lot of those words followed me into my adult life. I can not stand to see children making fun of other children regardless of their handicap.
