Don’t Forget the Lenses! A Crucial Part of Securing Eyewear

The Correct Lenses Are Very Important

While frame is important when choosing cheap designer glasses for comfort and appearance, the main reason for wearing eyeglasses is to correct vision. Vision and safety trump comfort and appearance, but only by a small amount. One mistake some make is to not consider the lens materials available to them, including coatings and designs. By learning more about the process, one can choose more wisely.

Nearsighted, farsighted, astigmatism and more ailments that need correcting depend upon the lens. There are progressive, multifocal and bifocal lenses to help, and all can be fitted in cheap designer glasses.

Features and Benefits

It’s important to know that the thickness of the lenses is determined by the style and size of the frame chosen. Thin lenses should be placed in small, oval or round frames while plastic hides the thick edges better.

Glass Lenses

Glass lenses are not so prominent now since it’s been found they break easier and are quite heavy. Most don’t want to risk hurting their eyes, which makes sense. However, in the older days, glass was chosen because it offers optics that are above and beyond.

Plastic lenses

Plastic lenses were introduced in California nearly 70 years ago. They are about half the weight of their glass counterparts, and the most chosen option as they’re affordable and offer great qualities.

Polycarbonate lenses

Polycarbonate lenses were first used for safety glasses, about a decade later they began to be used in glasses, and are a popular choice for children and athletes today. They are quite indestructible, and the polycarbonate lens material was actually used as bulletproof glass. It is light, and resists impact well.

In the early 1970s, Gentex Corporation introduced the first polycarbonate lenses for safety glasses. Later that decade and in the 1980s, polycarbonate lenses became increasing popular and remain so today.
Trivex is a light material for eyeglasses that is also impact resistant. It is a new development. It does carry some disadvantages, however, which can be discussed with an optician in order to determine if it’s the right option.

High-index Lenses

The demand for more lightweight, thinner glasses has grown and will continue to grow. High-index is that attempt by manufacturers, and are lighter than any other type. Anyone who is bothered by wearing glasses should consider high-index lenses as many claim they feel almost as though nothing is there.

Don’t Wait to Schedule

Regardless, the most important thing anyone can do when investing in cheap designer glasses is get into the optician and have their eyes checked. Facing any vision issues head on makes for a better chance of correcting it faster. There’s no sense in being nervous about seeing an optician as none of the conducted tests is terribly uncomfortable or painful. Expect to come out in cheap designer glasses that are completely flattering.

Common tests include those for nearsightedness, far sightedness, glaucoma, peripheral and straight forward vision and so much more. A good optician will walk a new patient through each test and explain to them exactly what is going to happen. Keep in mind, they may likely dilate the pupils during the exam, so it’s smart to have a friend or family member come along for the ride, as the patient will not be able to drive or go back to work. Regardless, the patient will love their cheap designer glasses for years.
