Whoever said, “Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses” clearly had no idea about the way in which the right frames can flatter a face. The explosion of designer glasses onto the market in recent years at least demonstrates that the truly stylish have not under-estimated their value.
But, with so many different varieties to chose from how do you go about picking the right pair? The answer lies in the three “s”es: shape, shade and style.
Shape
The shape of your face is crucial in determining what types of glasses are likely to suit you.
Long faces: If you have a long or oblong shaped face try choosing glasses that have wide frames and curved edges. This will help balance out the length of your face.
Round faces: If you have a round face you should ideally avoid square and round frames which tend to make round faces look even rounder. Instead opt for glasses with straight top and bottom frames.
Triangular faces: Glasses with curved rims really suit people with triangle shaped faces.
Shade
Most people fall into two colour types:
- Warm
- Cool
Warm types have a yellow tinge to their skin and their hair is either black, honey blonde or red.
Cool types have a blue or pink cast to their skin and their hair is brown, white blonde or white.
If you are a warm type the following colour glasses are likely to suit you:
- Gold
- Copper
- Tortoise
- Khaki
- Camel
- Cream
If you are a cool type you will probably look good in the following colour of glasses:
- Plum
- Rose brown
- Jade
- Blue
- Magenta
- Black
Style
When it comes to choosing the style of your glasses, it all depends what kind of look you are going for. Jackie O style glasses are very glamorous whilst John Lennon glasses suggest quirkiness and individuality. Alternatively, you could opt for a “sexy secretary” look with a pair of thick framed glasses.
The best way to decide which style you like is to go to an optician and try different pairs on. You may well find that what you thought you wanted does not look right at all at the pair you never would have considered makes you look like a film star!
