If you are someone who needs a new pair of glasses or who already wears prescription glasses then you may want to consider taking a look at titanium frames when you make your next purchase. Glasses, over a period of time, become part of your character but whilst you want to look good whilst wearing them you also have to consider the practical benefits of the frame as well as the cosmetic benefits. Personally, I have been wearing these lightweight frames for the last 5 years since switching from the standard steel frames I had been wearing since I was a child. There really is no going back to standard steel frames after you have experienced wearing titanium as the frames are so light (almost weightless) and comfortable to wear. The great thing about these frames is that not only are they very comfortable but they are extremely robust and almost impossible to break because of the strength of the compounds used in making titanium.
You can normally find a decent pair of titanium frames in your local opticians for around £200 but if you shop on-line then you can save yourself a fortune and grab a pretty decent pair for a third of the cost. One thing to remember, you don’t have to go for a designer branded frame to ensure that it will be of good quality as most unbranded titaniums on the market are made in the same way and a pair that might cost £70 will generally just be as good as a designer pair that may cost around £300. One thing to check if you are buying titanium glasses is that they carry the CE marking as this will ensure that they are made to the industry standard quality grade.
Just remember that these frames are generally more expensive than standard steel frames so be prepared to spend a little more than you normally would when making your purchase. You should look at the extra cost as a clever investment as you will feel the benefits of the frame from the moment you put them on. Another thing is that these frames will generally last a lot longer than your standard steel frame because of the robustness of the material and this should enable to use the frame again when your next lens upgrade is needed. Trust me, once you make the switch to a titanium frame, you won’t ever want to go back!
