Designer Sunglasses Go Retro

Being old is the latest trend in designer sunglasses. “Old,” however, doesn’t mean out of fashion; rather, older styles are back in vogue. In the present, wayfarer, aviator, and oversized are the three most popular styles of sunglasses. Some designer brands create looks for all three, while others focus on one. Fashion recycles itself every 20 years, and styles that were last worn in the ’80s are popular now. Although these older looks are back in the present, however, they’re not identical to older styles and, unless you’re going for a truly vintage appearance, wearing an old pair of designer sunglasses will simply make you look out of style.

Wayfarer sunglasses, in particular, define this old-is-new trend. Wayfarers, with Ray Ban being the designer behind this look, were last worn in the mid ’90s, but their popularity was eclipsed by wraparound styles. Nevertheless, Ray Ban has brought these designer sunglasses back, but the frames can be purchased in one of two styles and several color options are available. A classic pair of wayfarers by Ray Ban, for example, has an angular look – which makes them go well with several face shapes – and a more updated style gives the frames slightly rounded edges. Additionally, the frames and lenses come in nearly every color possible.

This use of color also gives aviator and oversized sunglasses an updated look. These styles, too, were last seen in the ’80s; only, then, they both had a basic appearance. Aviators, once more of a masculine look, have taken on a unisex appearance through plastic colored frames. In fact, white-framed aviator sunglasses were a highly sought-after item this past summer for men and women. Oversized styles, on the other hand, are still a feminine item only, but designers have capitalized on this. Instead of a basic appearance, many oversized sunglasses are designed with bright or bold colors and rhinestones to have a clearly fun and feminine look.

The boldness trend for designer sunglasses doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon. Designers still keep their basic styles – even Ray Ban still has black-on-black sunglasses – but more options can be found. A pair of sunglasses is all about being unique and having it match your personal style, and all of the latest trends use this combination of classic style and individuality.
