What Glasses Fit Which Face Shapes the Best?

Trying on eyeglass frames can be daunting. How do you know what frame fits your face shape best? Wait, what face shape are you to begin with? How are you supposed to find frames that fit your face when you’re not even sure what your face shape is? Take a breath. We’re here to help you find the best frame for shape of your face.

What Face Shapes Are There?
There are basically five face shapes: oval, square, round, base up triangle and base down triangle. These shapes follow their names. Oval is slightly thicker in the middle, and not quite round. Square has an almost equal length and width of the face. A round face is circular in nature. Triangle shaped faces come in two: base up and base down. Base up means that the triangle shape is wider at the forehead and thinner at the chin, making a triangle, and base down is exactly opposite.

How to Determine What Shape You Are
Look at your face in the mirror. It is best to do so after a shower, with your hair wet and pulled back. This will give you the best view of your face shape. Look at the width and length of your face. Does it look more square than round? Is the length greater than the width? This will help you decide what shape you are.

Frames for Your Face Shape
Once you have determined your face shape, you can find out what shape of frames is right for you. Oval shaped faces are the lucky few, because every frame shape available will work for them. Oval face types can wear oval, square, rectangle, round and wayfarer style frames, which means that they can wear any style; however, most oval shaped faces look best in oval shape frames.

Square face spaces look best in rectangle and oval frame shapes, which can help balance the squareness of the face. Round faces should also stick with rectangle and oval frame shapes, but can also sport wayfarer frame shapes too. Base up triangle faces can wear rectangle and oval frames to help balance the angularity of the face, while base down triangle shaped faces look best in rectangle or wayfarer.

Your eyeglass and sunglass frames should compliment the shape of your face, and not diminish it, so choosing the best frame shape for your face shape is essential. If you are still unsure about what frames look right for you, visit your local eyeglass retailer. They can help you find the best frame shape to compliment that beautiful face of yours.
